“PEACE STUDIES” will be a series of articles in which I try to understand peace. Mostly, it will be about brushes with conflict, and about encounters with art. As a nation, the United States has been utterly dependent on the production and export of violence, which has created an explosive ripple effect as that violence begins to circle the globe and return home. What becomes of discarded propaganda, soldiers, and concepts? What becomes of protest and protestors? What is the cultural movement towards or away from peace?
These will be documents of meditations, meetings, class struggles. I hope they bring an end to some modest amount of suffering in the world.
